The holidays 2020: what to do when gratitude isn’t enough

November marks the beginning of a new holiday season and things are shaping up to be a lot different this year because of COVID-19. It’s officially that time of year when everyone starts buzzing about ‘gratitude’ and the things you should be thankful for in life. But 2020 has been a tough year for so many. It can be hard to find gratitude amid a global pandemic.

COVID-19 continues to threaten and disrupt our daily lives and the holiday season is no exception. Many people will face tough decisions.

A lot of families will be forced to break life-long holiday traditions…

Others will yearn to travel….

Many will miss having grandma and grandpa over for a holiday feast…

And some will grieve the loss of those who aren’t around the table this year.

It’s Okay to Not be Okay

The changes and adjustments we’ve had to make over the past 8 months can start to add up in big ways making it hard to see the good in anything this holiday season. Maybe you find yourself seeing life with a ‘glass-half-empty’ mentality these days and that’s understandable.

One of the most important things you can do each day is tune into the way you feel. Sadness comes and goes. However, if you feel burdened by lingering feelings of sadness, loss of interest, lack of focus, and lethargy, your sadness could indicate something more.

Roughly 40 million US adults struggle with depression and/or anxiety. Sadly, not everyone who struggles recognizes that something is wrong or that they need treatment.
